Four fires in the Pyrenees being brought under control

250 fire fighters worked though the night against four separate fires in the Lleida Pyrenees. Only one of the focuses of the fire has not now been brought under control, and today air borne fire fighting craft have been brought in. They could not be used on Thursday because of the strong winds in the area. The most important of the four fires is in Gerrí de la Sal, in the municipality of Baix Pallars where about 500 hectares have been affected and some local villages have lost power. About 1,000 hectares of vegetation has been affected in total by the four fires, but given its remote nature there has been no need to evacuate anybody. The N-260 road remains closed however at El Pont de Suert, at the 285 km point, and earlier 50kms of road was closed between Huesca and Lleida because of the flames.
